The Curious Case of Melo and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum

Bob Sarlin, Rock Walks tour guide and father of Classical contributor Benjy Sarlin, sent us this story of a chance encounter with Carmelo Anthony:

I give walking tours about rock music in NYC and, as a result, was taken on a private tour of Madame Tussaud's wax museum in Times Square this morning.

Today they held a press event to introduce their new Carmelo Anthony figure and, of course, Carmelo and his family were there. After the announcement they snuck Carmelo to the Sports Gallery, dressed him in his uniform (headband included), and had him pose like his statue. They then brought in some kids and had Carmelo "come alive", which scared the heck out of the kids ... and more than a few adults. I got to speak with CA for a minute and ask him if it was weird seeing a wax dupe of yourself.

"Definitely," he replied.

The entire scene was surrealistic.

Of course, it would be better if Melo had pulled this stunt unprovoked, with no statue of his own to prompt the visit. Though then he might have been arrested.

Love the BLOG, Vanessa! I've always admired our Gramma Boytar because she certainly lived in the balcony. I remember when Zoe was born and in writing her a letter, I was trying to describe what Gramma Boytar was like, and I penned that she lived in a way that she woke up each day asking the world around her, "How can I help you?" It was in that moment, something clicked inside me that I, too, want to live that way, serving, supporting, encouLove the BLOG, Vanessa! The reason that the kids and adults were startled was because they had never seen Melo move once he had the ball in his hands even during games. The wax figure is dead on though, it just holds on to the ball, never passes.

Agreed. It isn't like Melo to look for an assist.
