We draw up plans and plays, we practice and practice and practice, and then it breaks. It always breaks, this is always how it works and the only way in which it works, and there is no amount of planning or practicing that we can do to prevent it from happening like this. The protection fails, and we are left to scramble.
This bit of faintly existential throat-clearing is appropriate because Week 4's Monday night matchup features the Seattle Seahawks—built to play creatively, and undone in the Super Bowl last season by the usual untameable exigencies and a hilarious excess of strategery. But mostly I bring it up because TD, who along with Mac comprises the power duo that makes up Footballz Podcast, has been left to scramble through a broken play tonight.
Our hero—or co-hero, anyway—is in the middle of a move, and extremely without internet. Which means that tonight's broadcast is Mac's show, although TD is promising a fourth-quarter call-in from an undisclosed location—"probably standing outside the window of one of Ridgewood (Queens)'s worst sports bars" is all he can say, presumably not to tip off the opposition too much.
How his Seahawks fare tonight against the Detroit Lions will probably dictate which version of TD we will hear by then, but until the duo is rejoined, we can count on the usual—a flawed but possibly interesting football game between two intermittently aimless teams, music and jokes and digression, and an audio track for Monday Night Football that will not include Jon Gruden or any other ESPN personnel in the least.
It's not perfect. Nothing is. But this Footballz just works, even when the play breaks down. As usual, you can listen here or at Footballz.org.
And of course you can feel free to chat it up here as needed.
