It was always going to be a struggle. There is a reason most people do not attempt to talk to themselves for the duration of an entire Monday Night Football game, or any other night or day's football game. The people that do talk to themselves are either deranged or regular-ish folks on the more voluble edge of the narcissistic personality disorder spectrum.
Our buddy TD, of Footballz, is neither of those. He's just a man, a man who likes football and talking and doing a podcast. A man who is good at all those things. And a man who was, in Week 11, more or less undone by attempting to do all of it himself. He did it, but it nearly undid him.
TD has started insulting random children. @footballztalk

It was good internet, in its way, but it was also hard not to feel for the dude. This week, blessedly, he will be rejoined by his team, with Mac and Chris joining him in the studio, and Stefan Marolachiks of the band Caveman joining over the phone. They will do this difficult thing together, and in so doing make it less difficult, more ennobling, and less acute a threat to TD's sense of emotional and physical well-being. All very good.
Of course, there is the fact that tonight's game is the sort of thermonuclear doozy that requires this sort of solidarity. The Baltimore Ravens are shredded by injury and starting Matt Schaub on purpose; the Cleveland Browns are enduring another relentlessly brown season, and are starting Josh McCown because the team's coach was very upset by a video of Jonny Manziel drinking and acting awful in an Austin nightclub. It was pretty upsetting, to be fair, but the video was only like 15 seconds long. Tonight's game, by contrast, is expected to run the regulation four quarters.
So this is a thing we will all survive and endure together, with each other's help and the good lord's grace. Let us all support Footballz, either here or at Footballz.org, and support each other. It's the only way through.
And chat it up here as needed:
