It was always coming back. The NFL spent the entirety of the 2014 season running an Oklahoma drill on its own genitals, botching everything as grievously and greedily as it possibly could, then followed it up with an offseason spent trying and failing to smush its hammish vision of discipline through the keyhole of Deflategate, and had nothing to show for it after Week 1 but record television ratings and billions of dollars. The bad news surges up, tidally, and recedes leaving nothing behind but stacks of money and 375 consecutive hours of advertisements for Daily Fantasy Sports. The NFL was always coming back. It is a new season, as they say, every week. And so, too, must Footballz Podcast return. The battle is joined, again.
Or, anyway, there is once again an audio alternative to listening to Jon Gruden bark and emote his way through the last game of Week 2. Footballz offers a healthy, nutritious, and 100% Gruden-free alternative to ESPN's Monday Night broadcast, and replaces all the Grudentia and FanDuel-sponsored punt-trajectory models with jokes and music, some of which will be about football and others of which will not. Our host, as ever, are the fearless TD and Mac, although comedian Ryan Douglass will fill in for Mac tonight. Nifty new patches are available, and will be awarded to the winners of tonight's caption contest on Instagram. The fourth quarter call-in guest is going to be... oh wow, interesting, it's me. I'm doing it. David Roth. So that should be interesting.
And so once more into the breach. The Jets and the Colts. The power and the glory. Forever and ever—or, more precisely, streaming right around kickoff and ending when the game does—amen. You can listen below, or at footballz.org. The hour is now. Let us begin again, together.
And if you feel compelled to chat, you can get that popping here:
